Control of integral processes with dead time Part IV: various issues about PI controllers

نویسنده

چکیده

Various issues about integral processes with dead time controlled by a PI controller are discussed. First, the region of the control parameters to guarantee the system stability is characterised. Then, the control parameters to achieve the given gain and/or phase margins (GPM) are determined. Furthermore, the constraint on achievable GPM is derived. These results are obtained on the basis of the normalised system that involves only two free parameters.

Control of Integral Processes with Dead Time: Practical Issues and Experimental Results

The problem of controlling an integral process with dead time is addressed in this paper. In particular, various practical issues concerned with the controller implementation are discussed and then verified with experiments carried out on a laboratory-scale setup where a level control problem is concerned. A comparison with a standard Proportional-Integral (PI) controller is also performed.

Analytical design of fractional-order proportional-integral controllers for time-delay processes.

A new design method of fractional-order proportional-integral controllers is proposed based on fractional calculus and Bode's ideal transfer function for a first-order-plus-dead-time process model. It can be extended to be applied to various dynamic models. Tuning rules were analytically derived to cope with both set-point tracking and disturbance rejection problems. Simulations of a broad rang...

Tuning Three-Term Controllers for Integrating Processes with both Inverse Response and Dead Time

Most industrial processes respond to the actions of a feedback controller by moving the process variable in the same direction as the control effort. However, there are some interesting exceptions where the process variable first drops, then rises after an increase in the control effort. This peculiar behaviour that is well known as “inverse response”, is due to the non-minimum phase zeros appe...

Another Novel Modification of Predictive PI Controller for Processes with Long Dead Times

PID controllers are indisputably the most common controller type encountered in process control applications. They are used for regulating processes with diverse dynamics in industrial applications. Especially, processes with long dead times should require special attention as they are difficult to handle with conventional PID controllers. A lof of different dead time compensating control metho...

Decoupled Smith predictor for multivariable nonsquare systems with multiple time delays

The classical multivariable Smith predictor is extended to multivariable nonsquare systems with multiple time delays where the number of process inputs is higher than the process outputs. Pairing for input and output variables is carried out using the block relative gain technique. Simplified decoupling method is applied to design the decouplers. The decoupled processes are modeled as first-ord...
